Five reasons Tigernuts are so good for you

Apart from tasting so darn deliciousTigernuts have numerous health benefits that far outweigh those of many other superfoods. Here are five stellar reasons to incorporate them into your everyday diet:

They fill you up and help with weight loss

Tigernuts are full of the fibre-rich good stuff, meaning a handful or two will keep you full enough for hours so you’re less likely to take in more calories afterwards.

They’re prebiotic

Yup, these nifty root vegetables contain resistant starch which is also a prebiotic and helps our bodies to naturally develop probiotic (friendly) bacteria, ensuring a strong immune system.

They lower cholesterol and blood sugar levels

The resistant starch aids digestive health, improves insulin sensitivity and lowers blood sugar and cholesterol levels. Winning.

They’re high in vitamins, nutrients and antioxidants

In particular, Tigernuts contain plenty of fibre, vitamins C & E, calcium, magnesium, zinc, iron, potassium (as much as coconut water!) and good fats.

They’re food allergen friendly

Did you know Tigernuts are actually nut-free, despite the name? Cheeky. They’re in fact tuber root vegetables and are also gluten-free, dairy-free, non-GMO and sugar-free, meaning those with food allergies and sensitive stomachs can reap the high nutritional benefits all day, everyday. In short – they’re FODMAP friendly!

Like most good ideas, our journey was born out of travel. Whilst overseas, a chance encounter with Tigernuts fuelled our curiosity to learn more. This ultimately led us to the Spanish coastal city of Valencia where we were properly introduced to Tigernuts and the Tigernut ‘culture’. The more we learnt about Tigernuts the more we wanted to share them with everyone, so we set about creating our vision: Health and Harvest.

Founded by two childhood friends - Tim and James- Health and Harvest is a community aimed at educating Australians on the nutritional benefits of the Tigernut with the end goal of improving people’s health and wellbeing.
